Mind Your Own Website

About Us

Mind Your Own Website is the brain-child of work-at-home mother, Melissa Freeman. Melissa lives in Randwick, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, with husband Jeremy, two children of preschool age, three chickens and a guinea pig.

\"PencilMelissa is a graduate of the University of New South Wales' Co-op Scholarship Program. After studying from 1997 to 2000 for her BSc in Business Information Technology, Melissa worked for three years for Dimension Data Australia, in application integration, consulting for companies such as the Commonwealth Bank, Australian Tax Office, Roads and Traffic Authority, and Telecom New Zealand (TCNZA). In 2004, Melissa abandoned the high-flying consulting work for a more relaxed, part-time position with St Andrew's Cathedral during pregnancy.

The inspiration for Mind Your Own Website came from observing that many small business and church organisation websites on the Internet are not up-to-date, or are ugly, and frequently enough, both! This can often be traced down to a story about an enthusiastic friend, who set up the website initially, but after a couple of months of activity was too busy to update it. Sometimes, even if you pay for professional consulting for your website, the support disappears if the developer who worked on your account leaves the business. The saying "if you want a job done right, do it yourself" comes to mind. But what if you don't know anything about web design?

As with many things, getting started is the hardest part, and Mind Your Own Website can help you. Melissa firmly believes that with the right initial setup, a little confidence and some basic training, most small businesses really can manage their own websites without needing to pay a fickle software developer, or rely on their teenager.
